After exploring Tbilisi and Mtskheta we journey to the heart of the Caucasian mountains and enjoy the magnificent scenery of Mt Kazbek and its eternal snows. We visit some of the most famous cave-towns and monasteries in Georgia known for ancient history, original architecture and frescos. The trip to Kakheti is the perfect end to the holiday and offers some of the best tasting and most historic Georgian wines.
Outline Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Tbilisi. Day 2: Full day city tour of Tbilisi with excursions to the Old Town, major museums, churches and architectural monuments, and other sites of this fascinating city. Night in Tbilisi. Day 3: Excursion to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia. We continue driving along the river Aragvi Valley and Georgian Military Highway. On the road visit the Ananuri architectural complex. In Kazbegi we explore the area and enjoy the views of the Caucasian Mountains, including Mt Kazbek. Night in Gudauri. Day 4: Visit the town of Gori. Excursion to Uplistsikhe ancient cave town and Ateni Sioni. Night in Kutaisi. Day 5: Excursions in and around Kutaisi; visit Bagrati and Gelati Cathedrals. On the way back to Tbilisi visit Ubisi church. Night in Tbilisi. Day 6: Excursion to David Gareji Monastery. Walk up to Udabno; explore some of the fine frescos and cave architecture. Night in Telavi. Day 7: Excursions in Kakheti: The Palace and museum of King Erekle II in Telavi. Visit Alaverdi Cathedral, Ikalto Academy, and Tsinandali Winery. Return in Tbilisi. Day 8: End of the tour. |
